The effect

What is a text match cut?

A text match cut is a rapid video edit built around a single highlighted word. The word stays in exactly the same position and size on screen while the text around it changes with every cut. The result is the flickering newspaper clipping effect seen in Reels, TikToks and YouTube Shorts: your eye stays locked on the highlight while everything around it keeps changing.

Editors often build it by hand, finding dozens of articles, lining up the word frame by frame and adding a highlight. TextMatchCut does that for you. It generates fresh newspaper-style layouts, places your word at the center of every one and exports the result as a video you can drop into CapCut, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

It works well for name reveals, intro hooks, announcements, birthday edits and anything where one word deserves attention.

How it works

Three steps to the viral look

A text match cut keeps one thing identical from shot to shot. Here, that thing is a highlighted word.

01

Type your word

A name, a hook, a punchline. Short words hit hardest. Pick a font and colors if you like.

02

We build the clippings

Dozens of fake newspaper layouts are generated, each with your word highlighted at the exact same position and size.

03

Preview and download

Play it back, tweak the speed, then download an MP4 or WebM with the tick track.

Pro tips

Get a better cut

TIP 1

Use it as a hook

Put the clip in the first three seconds of a video. The fast flicker stops the scroll.

TIP 2

Sync to the beat

Set Sound to No sound, import the clip and add your own track. Raise or lower the time per clipping to match your tempo.

TIP 3

Keep words short

One to two words look best. Longer phrases shrink to fit and lose punch.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is a text match cut?

It is a fast video effect where one highlighted word stays in exactly the same place while the text around it changes every fraction of a second, usually across newspaper clippings. Because your eye stays on the word, the flicker feels hypnotic.

Is it free? Is there a watermark?

It is free. There is no signup, no limit and no watermark on your downloads.

Are my words uploaded anywhere?

No. Clippings are drawn on a canvas in your browser and the video is recorded locally. Your text never leaves your device.

Which video format will I get?

The browser records the file. Chrome and Edge usually produce MP4 or WebM, Firefox produces WebM. Both import into CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and most phone editors.

Can I add sound?

Yes. A tick track is mixed into the downloaded video. You can turn the volume down, switch to synthesized paper ticks or choose No sound and add your own music in your editor.

Can I use my own sentences around the word?

Yes. Paste lines into "Your own sentences" and they replace the built-in filler text.

Why does the download take as long as the video?

Recording happens in real time. A 24 clipping video at 140 ms each is about 4 seconds, so the download appears after about 4 seconds.

Are the newspaper names real?

No. The newspaper names and sentences are fictional filler made for the look of the effect.

Ready to make your cut?

It takes less than a minute.
